kane and moss

I believe Martin Kane was a partner with my great grandfather Nicholas Moss in business in Greenville Pa in the late 1800's.

Kane and Moss

Yes they were partners back in the 1890's. I'm sad to see the store is up for sale. I got to go into it back in 2003 when I did alot of research on my family tree. A very nice store.

I also have kanes. I'm trying to find a connection to Thos & Catherine Kane coming from east PA to west PA in 1860s. Unfortunately there are just too many Patricks!!!

Who did martin marry? what was mary's maiden name?

My GGrandfather, Martin Kane was born in Kilrush, County Clare, Ireland sometime in the 1840's. The last name was spelled Keane over in Ireland. His family moved to England during the famine, they settled in Halifax, England. Martin grew to be a man and in the mid 1860's left for the USA. I thing he left by himself but I don't know. Martin ended up in Scranton, Pa. for a couple of years and then moved to Greenville, Pa. He became friends with a Eugene Rooney who owned a grocery store in Greenville. Eugene fixed Martin up with his niece Mary McEleavey who was from Glassdrummon, County Armagh. Mary and Martin married in 1873. They had 12 children, including my Grandfather Patrick. What 'stuck' out about your posting was your last name. My GGrandmother Mary went back to Ireland in 1904 to visit her parents and I have a letter from Martin to Mary and he writes about a Tom Bresnan and Annie, maybe his wife? Your name Breslin caught my attention. Please respond. Patrick Kane
