In 1849 Eli purchases land in Tyler Co., WV and moved there from Marion Co. WV. In the 1850 census, he is listed as a farmer worth $175. He served as a private in the Civil War and was discharged for rheutism and diarrhea April 2, 1863 from Point Lookout Hospital according to files in General Services Admin Archives. After birth of Austin, he moved his family to Indian Creek, Ritchie Co., WV where he died of a cerebral hemmorrhage. Frankie C. Moore Parks, widow of Harry F. Parks, told her granddaughter (Jennifer Parks Cupp) that Mary was ill and Esther Cordelia McGeorge was hired to care for her and the family. After Mary's death, eli and Esther married. Eli and Mary married 2 Feb 1843 in Bingamon, Marion Co., WV by George W. Lancaster. Mary was the daughter of Richard Stackpole and Margaret Glover
