GW Reeder was my great-great-grandfather

Fascinating information on George Washington Reeder who I believe to the father of Joel Dudley Reeder (born 1864 in Lewis County, KY and died in Dewitt IL in 1938) who was the father to John Henry Reeder, born 1888 in Lewis County, KY and died in Dewitt County, IL in 1958, and who was the father to Roger E Reeder, born 1912 in Lewis County, KY and died 2005 in Arlington, VA, and my father (I was born in Dewitt County, IL in 1947).

My grandfather John Henry Reeder migrated from Lewis County, KY to Dewitt County, Illinois in the early 1920s, and became a successful farmer. His father Joel Dudley followed his son to Dewitt County and died in 1938. Lewis County Kentucky was a hard place to make a living as a farmer, but central Illinois was much more fertile and productive.

Two George Washington Reeders

I am the Great Grandson of George Washington Reeder, but mine was born in Illinois and died in Kansas. I have traced my direct ancestors back to William Reder who's son John was born about 1615. From what I can see, apparently the Reeders started out in Bucks Co., PA and one group migrated north through Connecticut, Ohio, and Illinois, while the other gropup went south through Kentucky, Texas, and ended up in Bourbon CO., Kansas. This seems to be where both groups once again settled. The picture of Joseph Reeder you have is related to me. If you would like to swap information, please let me know.

Reeder family of Carter County KY.

dad7892 Yes, I would be interested in sharing Reeder family history.I am also trying to track down a picture of Enoch Edens who was the father of Bertie Edens that married William Winston Reeder.

Thank You,

searching for Eden family history

My sister and I are searching for family history of Enoch Eden ( also found his last name as Enoch Edon Reeder )he is our great-great-grandfather..we are confused with the history of our last name and if maybe he took his wife's last name ( our gg grandmother ) her name was Easter Brickey Edens...any info would be greatly appreciated! He was born in Hancock TN in 1832 and we think she was born around 1940 in Scott, VA - they had at least 5 children (Martha Henry Jane Mile Peter )

My Great-Great-Grandfather too

Now I know where my Uncle, Dean Reeder, got his big ears.

Origin of Original Reeder Immigrant?

It says of George Washington Reeders Death Certificate that his father Joseph Reeder was born in Ireland. Does anyone know if this is correct. Also if it is what part of irlend did our Reeder come from? Any info much appreciated.

HaHa! Loved your "big ears" comment! Poor great-great grandpappy George...he looked like he could have flown with those things! :) Nice to meet you cousin :)

In my research, I haven't

In my research, I haven't made connections between the Simon Reeder group and anything I've seen about the Carter Co., KY group. However the "big Ears" seems to have been a Reeder trait. My father and grandfather had them. Maybe you could help me plug your group of Reeders into one of the five line I have been able to identify.

George Washington Reeder

I think big ears must run in the Reeder Family. My father,John W Reeder, had big ears too.George Washington Reeder was his uncle,a brother to dad's father Joseph Reeder,Jr.
