Sarah Woodbury

This Sarah "Sally" Woodbury b 1810 in Bethlehem dau of James Woodbury was niece of Lot Woodbury who with twins and a six week old baby came from Sutton Mass to Bethlehem NH in 1794 and was father to the first male born there 1795, Otis Warren Woodbury. Lot owned the tavern in Bethlehem and took up shares for building the first "turnpike" that connected NH to VT and continued to Maine (then Mass). His wife was a Warren dau of one of the original settlers. My maternal 6th grgrandparents (Whipple) were also first settlers in Bethlehem. The winters late 1790's were harsh and some of the settlers died of starvation, Mrs. Elizabeth (Baker) Warren (sister in law to wife of Lot Woodbury) and my 6th grgrandmother Lydia (Gates) Whipple died shortly after arriving and were the first persons bur in the old cemetery there. Lot Woodbury's family fared better than most, only the son Otis d at a tender age in 1801.
